New to Having a Site?

If you've done this before, you may not need to read further. If you're completely new to all of this, keep going.

There are several things you need to get your site online. Of course, you need a site. That consists of the actual web pages, including the design and the content.

Design

The design of the site determines how it looks ... colors, layout .. the look of it. This part is our job, in collaboration with you..

Content

The content is what the site says ... the text, specific images, logos, etc. that you want people to see. You need to supply the content and we put it on the pages.

Domain

You also need a domain name. The domain is something like InglaDesign.com or MySite.net. It's the name people type in their browsers to get to your site. Many, many domain names are already taken, so you might not be able to register the exact name you have in mind. You can check this and see what name you can take. We can tell you how to do that.

Domain registrars charge fees for registration and renewal of domain names. You can either find your own registrar and deal with them directly, or we can get you registered. Either way, you need to pay for the domain. Prices vary from about $10.00 and up. The domain must be renewed periodically, or you will lose it.

Hosting

Then, you need a Host. That's a company that has a web server where your domain can be found (you tell your registrar the server address of your Host and anyone looking for your site will be pointed to that server).

Hosting comes in many shapes and forms and prices vary widely. You can find a host on your own or we can get you set up for around $5.00 per month.

Summing Up

Domain maintenance and hosting are ongoing expenses of running a site. Making the site (creating the design and adding the content) is largely a one time thing ... unless you want to make changes later on.

We hope this clarifies what you need to set up and maintain a presence on the web. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions about any of this.
